Dr. Jiang received his BESc. from Xi'an Jiaotong University, in Xi'an, China in 1982, and his MESc. and Ph.D. from the University of New Brunswick in 1984 and 1989, respectively. He started his academic career as a lecturer at the Marine Institute in St. John's, Newfoundland in 1988, and became an Assistant Professor in Lakehead University, in Thunder Bay, Ontario in July 1990. Dr. Jiang came to Western in July 1991 where he is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. From 2003, he has been an NSERC/UNENE Senior Industrial Research Chair in the field of control, instrumentation, and electrical systems in nuclear power plants.

He also became an honourary Newfoundlander by joining the Royal order of Screechers in 1989.
